Project Management
Accomplishing specific objectives and goals and related tasks on a deadline and a budget.
It is a practice that includes the application of certain processes, methods, skills, knowledge and experience to accomplish specific objectives. The project management process has 5 steps at its core- initiation, planning, executing controlling and closing. Every project has a lifetime as well as a budget, which is why managing a project is time specific unlike general management, which is a continuous process. Due to such demands of the field, project management requires technical as well as business skills apart from the usual people skills.
Dr Martin Barnes, CBE, is the President of the Association for Project Management(APM) and Originator of the New Engineering Contract (NEC) has defined project management as “people getting things done”.
